Our team had worked tirelessly with a spirit of craftsmanship to fulfill an important custom order on time. The products were finished, packed, and ready to go. Just when everything seemed perfect, our QC team detected faint black marks on the glaze of a few pieces during a final spot check—minor, yet unacceptable flaws.
In a Moment of Crisis: Responsibility First
An emergency meeting was called immediately. The technical team quickly traced the issue to slightly elevated temperatures during the second firing process. To leave zero room for risk, the QC team took it upon themselves to conduct a 100% inspection of the entire batch. The result: 72 pieces were found to be affected.
The clock was ticking. The container was booked, and the shipping schedule left no wiggle room. Remaking these 72 pieces meant missing the agreed shipment date—potentially causing inconvenience or losses for our client.
Faced with a choice between speed and integrity, we didn’t hesitate.
Open Communication: Offering Honest Solutions
We’ve always believed that trust is more valuable than any order. We would never risk it by hiding a problem. So, we proactively and transparently informed the client of the issue. With a commitment to both product quality and customer responsibility, we offered two solutions:
Option 1 – Quality First: We would immediately remold and refire 72 flawless replacements. This would take an additional 10 days. We pledged to cover all costs and asked whether the client was willing to wait.
Option 2 – Speed First: We would ship the full order on time, clearly marking the cartons containing the 72 flawed pieces. The client would not be charged for these items—we would issue a full refund.
